Using it day to day: practical tips

Rough passages give boat batteries a beating that a car battery never sees. Use identical batteries of the same age when connecting several in parallel. Charging on the wrong programme quietly shortens battery life.

How AGM batteries work and how to look after them

Gas produced during charging recombines inside an AGM battery, so it loses almost no water. Premium cars with lots of electronics usually come with AGM from new. Keep AGM terminals clean and tight.

Quick compatibility checklist

• ✓ This reference uses AGM. If your current battery has a different technology printed on it, find out why before switching.
• ✓ Outside dimensions are 340 × 173 × 285 mm. Run a tape measure over your tray or compartment, including the height under the bonnet or lid.
• ✓ Rated 142Ah: check that the charger or alternator in your system can refill a battery of that capacity in reasonable time.
