Practical advice for solar power systems
A boat moored with a solar panel keeps its battery topped up slowly. Fit the controller as close to the battery bank as practical. Lights failing a little earlier every evening tell you the bank is wearing out.
About the technology: AGM
Nothing sloshes around in a glass-mat battery, because every drop of acid is held in the separators. Glass-mat batteries recover well after a deep discharge compared with flooded ones. Check the charging voltage limit printed on an AGM label.
Make sure it fits your vehicle or equipment
- ✓ Technology to match: AGM. Moving to a different chemistry may need settings changed in your system.
- ✓ Grab a tape measure: 344 × 172 × 278 mm is what this case needs.
- ✓ Capacity 140Ah: equal to or a little above your old label is ideal.
Questions buyers ask about the Trojan 12-AGM
Is the Trojan 12-AGM suitable for a 12V system?
Yes, if they are identical. Two 12V units of 140Ah in series give double the voltage; in parallel they give double the capacity at 12V.
Is AGM the same as the battery I have now?
Look at the sticker on the battery you have now. If it also says AGM, this is a like-for-like choice. If not, check your vehicle or system can handle the change.
Are there other sizes in the same series?
This reference sits within TROJAN AGM. Browse the brand page to see the neighbouring sizes of the same range.
