Installation and maintenance tips

A week of fog in the hills tests every solar battery bank. Fit the controller as close to the battery bank as practical. Cables that feel hot after a charge usually mean a poor joint.

Care tips for AGM batteries

Open up an AGM battery in your imagination and you would find the acid soaked into thin glass-fibre sheets squeezed against each plate. Glass-mat batteries shrug off vibration, which is why bikes and boats use them so often. Never try to open an AGM battery to add water.

Five checks for a perfect fit

✓ The technology is AGM. Keep the same type as the original, and confirm your charger offers a matching profile.
✓ Check 262 × 179 × 273 mm against the tray, not just the old battery.
✓ Stored energy reserve: 165Ah. Going much lower than your current battery can leave you short on cold mornings or long stops.
