Practical advice for mobility scooters and wheelchairs
A scooter parked in a cold porch overnight starts the day with less range. Check tyre pressures before blaming the batteries for poor range. A battery that looks swollen should be replaced at once.
About the technology: gel
Gel cells thicken their acid with fine silica until it sets like a stiff paste. Golf buggies and scrubbers often run on gel. Do not equalise gel batteries.
Five checks for a perfect fit
- ✓ Technology to match: gel. Moving to a different chemistry may need settings changed in your system.
- ✓ Check 181 × 76 × 167 mm against the tray, not just the old battery.
- ✓ Plus pole position: positive on the right-hand side. Mixing up orientation is the most common reason a battery of the right size will not connect.
