Practical advice for mobility scooters and wheelchairs
A powerchair used for school or work cycles its batteries hard. Keep a note of the date the batteries were fitted. Soft tyres can make healthy batteries seem tired.
About the technology: AGM
Glass-mat batteries are sealed, with small valves that only open if pressure builds up. Motorcycles benefit from glass-mat batteries because they tolerate lean angles and vibration. A full charge now and then helps an AGM battery that mostly works part-charged.
Make sure it fits your vehicle or equipment
- ✓ The capacity rating, 2Ah, should suit the consumers you run. Lots of electrical equipment calls for the higher end.
- ✓ Sticking with AGM avoids surprises, unless your vehicle maker approves a change.
- ✓ A case of 143 × 23.1 × 64 mm must sit flat with the clamp closed.
