Garden and Auxiliary

Choosing a garden machine battery

Check the code on the old battery or in the machine handbook. Small mower batteries share similar footprints but differ in where the posts sit, so compare the layout carefully before looking at amp-hours and cranking amps.

Secondary batteries in cars

Plenty of recent models hide a second, smaller battery that backs up the electrics or the engine stop function, often under a seat or behind trim. Match the exact reference and follow the carmaker's procedure when replacing it.

Making it last

• Once the mowing season ends, charge fully and keep the battery cool and dry.
• Leave a maintainer on it through the winter break.
• Check the charge before the first spring start.

Quick answers

The mower only clicks. What now?

Usually the battery is flat or the posts are corroded. A unit from Chargers may bring it back if it is not too old. Brands here include Fulbat, Exide and Tudor.
