Fitting and everyday care

A lorry with a sleeper cab runs the heater, the fridge and phone chargers all night on its batteries. Disconnect the series link before charging the two batteries separately at 12 volts. Renewing just half of a series pair rarely ends well.

The lead-acid technology explained

Six cells of about two volts each make up a typical 12-volt battery. Lead-acid suits trucks and farm machinery where simplicity and value count. Keep flooded batteries upright.

Quick compatibility checklist

• ✓ A different chemistry from lead-acid may need system changes.
• ✓ Tape measure time: 518 × 274 × 240 mm is the footprint and height of this case. Leave a little clearance for the clamp and the cable lugs.
• ✓ Stored energy reserve: 225Ah. Going much lower than your current battery can leave you short on cold mornings or long stops.
