Using it day to day: practical tips

Data centres replace whole strings of batteries on a schedule. Keep spare batteries charged if they are stored for a while. Choosing on size alone and ignoring terminal width leads to connectors that will not fit.

About the technology: AGM

Picture a sponge holding the acid: that is roughly how an AGM cell works. Because nothing can spill, AGM batteries can live inside a cabin, a boot or under a seat. Charge an AGM battery on a programme made for AGM, not a generic setting.

Before you order: a quick checklist

• ✓ Capacity 40Ah: equal to or a little above your old label is ideal.
• ✓ This reference uses AGM. If your current battery has a different technology printed on it, find out why before switching.
• ✓ Check 199 × 166 × 171 mm against the tray, not just the old battery.
