Practical advice for UPS and standby systems

An alarm panel beeping at three in the morning usually means its battery is low. Run a self-test after the fresh blocks have charged. Exit lights that fail their duration test often need new batteries.

AGM: how it works

Oxygen formed at one plate travels through the mat and recombines at the other. Backup systems rely on AGM because it can wait, fully charged, for years without fuss. Keep AGM batteries away from sustained heat, which shortens their life.

Make sure it fits your vehicle or equipment

• ✓ Sticking with AGM avoids surprises, unless your vehicle maker approves a change.
• ✓ Outside dimensions are 151 × 65 × 102 mm. Run a tape measure over your tray or compartment, including the height under the bonnet or lid.
• ✓ Do not go far below your old battery's capacity; this one has 7Ah.
